Remember the KB5066835 update that went live the day before yesterday?
While it fixes the print preview problem, as expected, it brings new unexpected issues.
Some Windows 10 users may experience the same symptoms after installing the final update.
Windows 10 Final Update KB5066791 – Windows 10 Support Ends After This
Yep! This is pretty typical.
After installing this update,
when previewing Office or PDF files in File Explorer, you'll see this screen.
This issue occurs on every 25H2 system after installing KB5066835 (24H2 cases are rare so far).
The simplest fix is, of course, to uninstall KB5066835.
The path is
Select [Settings] > Windows Update > Update History > Uninstall Updates
If that doesn't work after trying it (some machines keep forcing the update),
then try modifying Internet security settings to add network folder paths to trusted sites method.
The path is
Select [Settings] > Network & Internet > Advanced Network Settings > Internet Options
Security > Trusted Sites > Sites
Then add the path where you store files that need previewing on your computer.
Special reminder ~~~ Make sure to turn off the HTTPS verification option.
Then you can close the window.
Theoretically, that's it.
Just keep all files you need to preview in the added folder.
It's a bit of a hassle, but better than not working at all.
I personally focus on good file naming in document management, so I don't have preview issues.
It also makes data retrieval much faster.
Everyone can try this root-cause fix from usage habits.
