Škoda recently released official car accessories and model files. After looking into it, I realized that a ton of major brands have actually been doing this for a while[cite: 12]!
Philips, IKEA, Logitech, Cooler Master, Festool, Noctua, Framework... From cars, smartphones, and computers to power tools, more and more brands are directly uploading design files online, letting consumers download and print them at home[cite: 12].
Some are custom accessories, some are repair parts, and even product casing CAD files have been made public[cite: 12].
For manufacturers, this means they don't need to open molds and stock inventory for every single low-volume part; for consumers, broken items don't necessarily have to be replaced as a whole[cite: 12].
For us running 3D printing service businesses, could this be a whole new market[cite: 12]?
