As someone who’s often in Tainan, the most common question I get from friends and family visiting is:

Where can you find good food in Tainan, affordable places to stay, and ideally, they’re close to each other with parking available?

In that case, I’d say ~ if you’re targeting Ximen Road and Haian Road in Tainan’s Zhongxi District,

then Hotel A (Shenghe Hotel) is your best choice.

Here’s the basic info:

Hotel A (Shenghe Hotel)

No. 23, Section 2, Ximen Road, Zhongxi District, Tainan City

06 220 0988

Hotel A (Shenghe Hotel) is located at the intersection of Ximen Road and Fuqian Road, right by the roundabout.

It was newly built a few years ago, so it comes with a fairly large underground parking lot.

Compared to the hard-to-find parking spots in this area, this is the hotel’s first user-friendly feature.

The second user-friendly feature is its prime location, making it a must-stay for foodie travelers.

Let me mention a few well-known spots within a 15-minute walk:

First, right nearby is the famous Fuxiang Shacha Hotpot, and across the roundabout is Atang Salty Porridge.

Heading north on Zunwang Road, you’ll find Songwang Noodle Shop or, a bit further north, Youai Street with Xiaodu Yimian and Youai Market.

Going south, you’ll hit Baoan Road, filled with food options, including a branch of Acai Beef Soup.

If that’s not enough, there’s also Laopang Beef Noodles, Amin Pig Heart Vermicelli, and Aqing Almond Tea.

For dessert lovers, head from Baoan Road to Guohua Street for Babao Bingyuanhui (shaved ice).

Coffee enthusiasts can walk to the well-known Tainan café Shuyoufeng during the day.

With just these, you can see why I say this hotel is a foodie’s dream, right?

If that’s still not enough to explore, hop on the hotel’s shuttle and visit Tainan’s night markets.

A quick note here:

Shengwang Business Hotel and Shenghe Hotel are sister properties, both on Ximen Road. If Hotel A is fully booked, you can consider Shengwang as well.

Let’s dive back into this hotel.

Hotel A was built just a few years ago, so everything you see here is quite new.

The lobby design isn’t extravagant but is bright and stylish.

Additionally, the front desk sells skincare products from SABAYAA, a brand under Richie Natural Oil Co., which supplies five-star hotels in Bangkok, Thailand.

There are samples available on-site ~ feel free to try them and ask the staff for more details if needed.

Also, the hotel currently has a like/follow/add-friend promotion.

Complete a follow on one platform, show it to the front desk, and get a pair of beautifully designed Japanese chopsticks (random style).

Follow three platforms, and you’ll get three pairs (the staff will kindly pick three different styles for you).

Their Facebook page also holds monthly lucky draws, so don’t forget to join if you visit!

I’m sure you’re curious about the room types.

Let’s start with the most common choice: the double room.

This is the standard double room, about 22 square meters.

If you need more space, you can opt for

the Deluxe Suite.

It’s about 30 square meters and includes an extra small sofa and coffee table.

I usually come with family (most of my relatives bring kids when visiting Tainan),

so we often choose the Family Room.

This time, I brought the kids to stay in the Deluxe Family Room.

It’s about 32 square meters with two standard queen-size beds.

The hotel’s policy allows up to four adults and two children (without extra beds).

But since they’re queen-size beds, two adults and four elementary-school kids are manageable too.

The beds’ firmness suits me perfectly, so I slept incredibly well.

I have to give a shoutout ~ Hotel A has tons of power outlets in the rooms, which is super convenient for families with high charging needs.

The bathroom is spacious.

It’s very convenient for parents to handle kids’ bathing or brushing needs.

I just herded all the kids in there to sort themselves out.

The in-room snacks are pretty cool and super popular—kids went crazy for them.

Water is provided at one bottle per person,

but there’s also a water dispenser near the elevator if you need more.

(Though, let’s be real, in southern Taiwan, you’re usually loaded with bubble tea anyway.)

Besides comfortable stays and easy access to great food,

the breakfast here is also quite impressive with a wide variety.

It covers both Western and Chinese options,

plus a daily chef’s special dish.

This was the special on the day I went:

As a dessert lover, I have to say:

It’s rare for an affordable hotel to offer such a variety of desserts ~ the dessert counter is packed with options.

In short, I highly recommend trying their breakfast (no matter how comfy the bed is, get up for this! Don’t miss it!)

Also, if you’re staying for a few days, you don’t need to bring too many clothes.

Besides being close to Shin Kong Mitsukoshi for shopping,

the hotel has a self-service laundry room on the first floor.

Wash, dry, and fold—all in one go.

I know some people love hitting the gym with air conditioning.

Hotel A’s gym isn’t huge, but it’s enough to get a good sweat going.

/tmp/phpSV3G60

There’s also a meeting room that can hold about 50 people.

(This reminds me of the days when I gave talks in hotel meeting rooms across southern Taiwan.)

For pricing details, just call and ask if you’re interested.

If I ever hold classes again, I’d seriously consider this place ~ after all, hitting up local food spots after class is awesome.

Here’s a quick share for those looking to immerse themselves in Tainan’s Zhongxi District.

If the places I mentioned earlier aren’t enough, let me add a few more within a 30-minute walk:

You can reach Shennong Street, Shuixian Temple Market, Tainan Art Museum, Blueprint Cultural & Creative Park, and Hayashi Department Store.

That’s plenty, right? Enough to keep you walking until your legs give out.

This convenient location is my heartfelt recommendation for anyone planning to explore downtown Tainan.
