Note: Due to some issues with the platform recently, a lot of images from my older posts went missing.

To make the migration to my new site smoother, I’ve gone back and cleaned up a few articles.

Since this SSD is still very much available, I recovered all the original images from 2023.

Everything is re-uploaded and updated for 2026 for your reference!

Seagate FireCuda 530 SSD 2TB (Heatsink Version)

It’s definitely not a brand-new release anymore, but the heatsink version remains a top-tier choice for PS5 SSD upgrades due to its perfect physical compatibility and the extra thermal headroom.

I only recently had the chance to get my hands on one while helping a friend upgrade their rig. Let’s see if this drive—often dubbed as a beast that pushes the absolute limits of PCIe 4.0 bandwidth—truly lives up to the hype.

Official read/write speeds are rated at 7300/7300 MB/s, and the box clearly indicates it's fully compatible with the PS5 console[cite: 6].

This model takes the standard FireCuda 530 and pairs it with a robust, custom-built aluminum heatsink designed in collaboration with the thermal experts at EKWB[cite: 6].

Technical Specs (collected from online data, as I didn't want to risk breaking the heatsink to tear it down):

  • Controller: Phison PS5018-E18 PCIe 4.0 x4[cite: 6].
  • DRAM Cache: 2 x SK Hynix H5AN8G6NCJ DDR4-2666 (the 1TB model only has one)[cite: 6].
  • NAND Flash: Micron B47R 176-layer 3D TLC NAND (8 chips total across both sides for the 2TB version)[cite: 6].

The heatsink is quite chunky—and as everyone knows, Phison controllers can run pretty hot, so it’s definitely needed[cite: 6].

Because of that physical bulk, this heatsink version can be a tight squeeze in some setups. Always double-check your clearance before buying—especially if you're using high-end motherboards that already come with their own integrated armor and thermal shields[cite: 6].

Test Platform: Lenovo Legion Slim 5i (16IRH8)[cite: 6].

To be honest, this SSD is basically the ceiling for what most people need today. We were curious how it would perform on an Intel 13th Gen laptop platform. The results hit the expected 7000 MB/s bandwidth limit[cite: 6].

Regarding AIDA64 linear write tests: it didn't quite maintain the 5500 MB/s sustained write speeds seen in some desktop benchmarks, but we’ll chalk that up to laptop platform limitations[cite: 6]. The speed drop-off occurred around 40% capacity, which is typical for these setups[cite: 6].

Compared to two years ago, when the price was frankly discouraging, the cost has been cut in half this year. It’s definitely a great time to pick one up if you've been waiting for a deal[cite: 6].
