Today, I want to show everyone a Switch. In recent years, Fox has started recommending the NSA brand's unmanaged Ethernet switch.
If you want to upgrade your home network speed without planning to rewire and continue using CAT 5E,
upgrading your Ethernet switch to a 2.5G switch seems like a good choice.
Moreover, if your NAS has a 2.5G network port, upgrading your internal network to 2.5G will make data transmission more efficient.
ASUSTOR Switch'nstor Gen2 (ASW209X) ASUSTOR Technology 9-Port 2.5G Multi-Gigabit Unmanaged Switch
This type of switch is not yet commonly found in stores like Tsann Kuen or Sunfar.
The main reason is that compared to the currently popular 1G models, the price is not very affordable.
However, once you decide to skip that level, you’ll find that the price of this one is actually quite reasonable.
Additionally, when Fox purchased it through Shopee, it was surprisingly... very plain!!
(Recently, it seems like this kind of product packaging tends to follow this style)
The power adapter provides a commonly used international multi-plug specification combination.
You can swap it with a suitable plug based on your country.
The transformer is relatively square in shape.
You need to be mindful of its position on the power outlet.
In addition to 8 2.5G RJ-45 ports, the ASUSTOR ASW209X
also includes one 10G SFP+ port, enabling uplink speeds of 10G.
However, for home use... it’s uncertain when providers like Chunghwa Telecom will offer 10G upload/download speeds for residential use; it’s unlikely in the short term.
All indicator lights and ports are on the front.
The indicator lights are directly integrated into the ports.
The power input is located on the back of the device.
All ports are fully connected, but there’s no SFP+ related equipment currently.
So, the performance of that connection couldn’t be tested.
For 2.5G connections, the indicator shows green, while 1G or below shows yellow.
We used the ASUS ZenWiFi Pro ET12 AXE11000 Mesh WiFi 6E Wireless Router to provide a 2.5G connection.
One of the ports was connected to our NAS DS918+ via Synology DiskStation DS918+ NAS with 2.5G Expansion for high-speed connection.
It was also connected to Whip-Old-G’s computer with the ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z690 EXTREME, a top-tier motherboard with the Eye of Faith.
We tested the speed of transferring files from the NAS to the computer, and the 2.5G speed was fully utilized.
Currently, out of the 8 2.5G ports, only 4 support 2.5G networking.
The 1 10G SFP+ port is currently unused... the equipment needed for it is too expensive.
The above is a simple unboxing. The price of this device is now at a relatively affordable level.
With a small investment, you can significantly upgrade your home network speed.
