After nearly five years of loyal service, my Kingston KC2500’s controller is finally giving up the ghost[cite: 1].
I still remember unboxing it back in the day—you can check out my original review here: Kingston KC2500 1TB Unboxing & Review
The Warning Signs:
- Data within the drive started failing to read correctly[cite: 1].
- Files buried deep in my folder trees were suddenly being flagged as corrupted[cite: 1].
- While the BIOS and Device Manager could still detect the drive, the Kingston SSD Manager (KSM) couldn't see it at all[cite: 1].
Since the drive was clearly on its way out, I had to prioritize backing up whatever data was still accessible[cite: 1].
Given that SSD prices are currently through the roof, I decided to go with the NV3 1TB as a cost-effective replacement (it’s just going to serve as a secondary data drive, after all)[cite: 1].
I’ve previously covered the NV3 in detail here:
- Kingston NV3 PCIe 4x4 SSD: Faster than its predecessor, but best for cold storage. [cite: 1]
- Kingston NV3 NVMe Series: Now available in 2230 form factor, up to 2TB. [cite: 1]

I’m officially putting the NV3 into action today. Here are the initial benchmark results—it’s hitting those official speed claims right out of the box[cite: 1].

For this drive, I’m prioritizing stability over raw speed. While I do have a NAS for backups, I’d certainly prefer not to spend my days constantly migrating data! Here’s hoping this one lasts for more than three years[cite: 1].
