This is probably my third article this year introducing ASUS ExpertWiFi.
Previously, we covered two products with wireless capabilities: ExpertWiFi EBA63 and ExpertWiFi EBM68.
However, to fully leverage ASUS’s new wireless networking ecosystem,
I’ve been waiting for the core router and the EoP (Ethernet over Power) switch to pair with the EoP system to arrive.
Finally, everything has arrived! Let’s call it the ASUS Commercial Networking Full Meal Deal.
Now, let’s unbox this complete package for everyone.
Introduced by ASUS, designed specifically for small businesses and startups, this is a professional router.
ASUS ExpertWiFi EBG15 Gigabit VPN Router and Full Wireless Access Point Series
The ExpertWiFi EBM68 we introduced earlier is already more than sufficient for small storefronts.
If the storefront is a square space rather than a long, narrow one, a single ExpertWiFi EBR63 might cover the entire area.
There’s no need to deploy the Mesh series in such cases.
But for more complex environments, such as multi-floor restaurants (including office and POS ordering system networks)
or multi-purpose rental spaces, the two devices mentioned above are definitely not enough to handle a large number of connected devices and complex network configurations.
As I’ve mentioned before, the high-end commercial router market’s steep prices are not ideal for small business owners.
Not to mention, with an ultra-high-end router, you might not even use more than half of its features.
This is where the ExpertWiFi EBG15 Router and ExpertWiFi EBP15 PoE Switch come in.
They are excellent choices for building a wired network backbone.
Compared to traditional professional routers that require a wired connection for operation,
the ExpertWiFi EBG15 Router makes configuration much more user-friendly.
All you need is a smartphone and the ExpertWiFi app to easily start setting up your network.
Moreover, the ExpertWiFi EBG15 Router is very compact, about the size of a standard 5-port switch.
Users don’t need a large space or even a rack to accommodate it.
The accompanying device, the ExpertWiFi EBP15 PoE Switch, is also compact in size.
The ExpertWiFi EBP15 PoE Switch can supply up to 60W of power,
making it suitable for powering PoE surveillance devices or pairing with ASUS’s ExpertWiFi EBA63 PoE Wireless AP to set up a wireless network.
We previously demonstrated during an unboxing that this AP is ideal for spaces with lightweight steel-frame ceilings.
Since it’s a PoE-powered device via Ethernet cable,
there’s no need to worry about finding an extra power outlet—just run the network cable, and you’re set.
Let’s do a mock assembly on the desk first, and then we’ll set it up for real.
I’m genuinely impressed with ASUS for launching such an integrated product line.
In the past, setting up a network for a storefront with complex configurations
required a powerful wired-only router for traffic distribution,
followed by purchasing a PoE switch and individually configuring different wireless networks.
But with the ASUS ExpertWiFi series, you can manage the entire setup with just a smartphone app.
Even if you haven’t connected a wireless AP yet, it’s fine as long as you’re connected to the network.
Then, you can configure everything through the very convenient ASUS ExpertWiFi app interface.
This time, we’ll select the EBG15 for setup.
However, this time, you’ll need to register an ASUS account first. After registering and logging in,
the app will request Bluetooth connection permissions for your phone.
The setup process is really not difficult—just let it run its course.
During the initial setup, I hadn’t connected any devices capable of transmitting wireless signals.
So, I’m genuinely impressed with the thoughtfulness of ASUS’s design team.
After setup, you’ll notice that your device isn’t directly connected to the router
but is configured remotely via the external network (ASUS’s team has put a lot of thought into ease of on-site operation).
Moreover, this system can manage the settings of all ExpertWiFi wireless networks in a unified way,
eliminating the need to purchase an additional wireless network management controller like some competitors require.
Even more convenient, when ASUS ExpertWiFi wireless AP devices are connected via wired Ethernet to the router,
the app will automatically prompt the user to add them to the AiMesh system.
Simply select all devices, and the app will automatically integrate them into the system.
Then, just wait for all devices to sync their settings automatically,
and all wireless network nodes will be connected.
As with commercial networking products, I strongly recommend using the computer interface for more detailed configuration.
For those familiar with ASUS’s system, the AiMesh interface is very intuitive.
The information interface is essentially ASUS’s familiar web-based management dashboard.
You can add nodes, optimize settings, view topology, and check connection methods and speeds between nodes.
Here, you can see all my ExpertWiFi devices are connected,
including the top-level router ExpertWiFi EBG15,
the PoE switch ExpertWiFi EBP15, and the PoE-powered ExpertWiFi EBA63.
The wirelessly connected devices include two ExpertWiFi EBM63 units and one ExpertWiFi EBR63.
Additionally, in the management interface, you can view the power status of the PoE-powered ExpertWiFi EBA63.
Tasks that previously required accessing individual device management interfaces
are now fully integrated by ExpertWiFi.
Other operations are identical, so I’ll demonstrate again using our previous example with the ASUS ExpertWiFi EBM68.
The interface is visually very clean.
The left side of the web interface features the main functions of the ExpertWiFi router: AiMesh, Software-Defined Networking (SDN), VPN Server, VPN Fusion, AiProtection, and traffic monitoring and settings.
The dashboard on the homepage presents various information in card format, sharing the same design philosophy as the app interface, allowing network administrators to quickly understand the network’s status.
Like the EBM68, the EBG15 router supports Software-Defined Networking (SDN),
which is a flagship feature of the ExpertWiFi router series.
You can add up to 5 VLANs and configure them based on usage scenarios with guided prompts.
The guest portal settings allow for a high degree of personalization.
In addition to built-in images, you can upload your own images
to provide instructions or serve as advertisements.
This way, users connecting to the wireless network will be prompted with an advertisement
and must agree to the terms of service before accessing the network.
This is ideal for coffee shops, restaurants, or businesses offering free Wi-Fi, with a dedicated “Guest Portal” to guide guests to agree to terms.
These settings are fully customizable.
You can also set up additional SSIDs for other purposes,
such as one for internal staff with open wireless network access.
Each custom network can be individually disabled,
offering users greater flexibility in customization.
The VPN functionality is also quite robust.
Features typically found only in high-end consumer models are fully included in the ExpertWiFi series.
ASUS’s signature AiProtection feature is, of course, included here as well.
All other detailed settings are organized under the settings section.
I personally think this web layout is quite good.
The overall page is cleaner, and you know exactly where to find settings based on major categories.
The above demonstration aims to help readers understand the application of the ASUS ExpertWiFi full product line in a clear and accessible way.
In terms of usability,
for users who need something more advanced than consumer-grade but don’t require enterprise-level networking equipment,
ASUS ExpertWiFi offers a highly practical tier with very flexible combinations across the series.
It’s priced lower than enterprise-grade solutions but slightly above consumer-grade, allowing users to customize their setup based on their needs.
It provides small businesses or enterprises with essential Software-Defined Networking (SDN) functionality.
With simple settings, it’s easy to manage multiple SSIDs, and preset scenarios help administrators configure effortlessly.
For business owners like coffee shops, restaurants, or rental space operators,
the ASUS ExpertWiFi series can be tailored to specific needs, with all settings manageable through a single interface.
It’s definitely a wireless router system worth considering for your procurement list.
